Empower has three Mercy Homes that reach out to South Asia’s mentally ill people who have been left abandoned and unsupported on the streets. People are rescued and taken to the Home where they are bathed, their wounds are tended, they are given nutritious food and a safe place to heal. Many patients make tremendous progress, and some have even been totally healed mentally and restored to their families.
You can provide full care for a Mercy Home patient for one month for $150.
Safe Water through Wells
Severe drought has resulted in a shortage of water across South Asia. Empower drills wells in areas where there is no safe, potable water available. One well will impact three villages – that’s approximately 3,000 people. Our wells are deep core bore wells that are drilled down deep into the aquifer which prevents the well drying out and gives a constant supply of safe water to the community.
One well costs $3,000 and will provide safe water for three villages.
Tailoring Skills for Women
Empower is teaching poor, disadvantaged, uneducated women how to sew. The women learn tailoring skills and are then able to earn their own money. Most woman we train are widowed or live with a husband who is either not present, violent or alcoholic. Women who have their own means of income spend their wages on the family – providing food, clothing and education for their children.
Six months tailoring education, including access to a sewing machine, for one woman costs $125.
